Movers and Makers Staging Ageing
Grand Gesture is a dance theatre company of older performers in London devising entertaining pieces that aim to shift the cultural understandings of later life. Our mantra is: embrace imperfection, be authentic, put your heart and soul into it and have fun.
Rite of Autumn, our latest work, shows how ageing is not an end, but an ongoing cycle. Inspired by Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring, playful games lead to a sacrifice.
Concept: Bruce Currie. Devised by the cast.

HAPPY EVER OLDER
Come to a land without any clocks and dance with a tree, a moth and a fox
‘Happy Ever Older’ is an original musical fairy tale based on the symbolic themes of little-known elder folk tales, which offer guidance on how to transition into a good old age. In our story a queen is condemned for being too old. She is thrown out of her royal life and left to die alone in a dark forest. Can a silver fox, an elder tree and an ageing caterpillar save her? Watch and find out!
“Great fun. And marvellously DIY. Reminded me of 1980s Derek Jarman.” Rose Rouse, Founder of Advantages of Age.
